01 / THE CONTEXT

First, the context.

THE VOTEME TAKE

The castle had an exit strategy. Eric may have preferred to be consulted about his.

In The Traitors season-four finale, Rob Rausch and Eric Nam were the remaining Traitors, with Maura Higgins a Faithful. After Tara Lipinski was voted out, Rob chose to banish again. Rob and Maura then voted Eric out, leaving Rob to reveal his role and take the $220,800 prize. This is a dated look back at that televised decision: would you play for the entire pot or protect a shared endgame?

02 / THE POINTS OF VIEW

Play for the whole prize

The game is rather clear about the game.

WHAT THE SOURCES SAY

  • With three players remaining, Rob chose Banish Again.
  • Rob and Maura both voted Eric out; Rob ultimately received the entire $220,800 prize.

OUR READING · INTERPRETATION

The strategic argument is straightforward: a move available within the game produced a solo win. If you watch for calculation and risk, that can be the point of the format. Trust is a resource here, and the castle does not offer a loyalty-points scheme.

Protect the final alliance

A shared ending is still an ending.

WHAT THE SOURCES SAY

  • Eric was surprised by the decision; Peacock’s follow-up says he expected them to end the game.
  • The final pair was Rob and Maura. As a Faithful left with a Traitor, Maura received no prize money.

OUR READING · INTERPRETATION

The alternative values the alliance and the people who helped reach the finish. You can understand a winning tactic and still prefer a less ruthless ending. Appreciating the rules does not require applauding every way to use them.

WHAT THE RECEIPTS CANNOT SETTLE

This is a February 26, 2026 finale throwback with major outcome spoilers. We are judging a televised game decision, not diagnosing anyone’s character. The sources cannot establish every off-camera conversation or how an alternative ending would have played out.

HAWKE’S EYE · OPINION

The programme is called The Traitors, which does take a certain amount of pressure off the brochure. Still, “excellent strategy” and “I would hate that happening to me” can occupy the same sofa. Give both feelings a cushion.
